Our Story... The Secret Struggles
We both walked through our own failed marriages and divorce. We both had three adult children.
Prior to the divorces, if you had looked at us from the outside, we had status and our own successful careers. By outside appearances, we had it all.
But back at home, it was a different story. Divorce finally ended that chapter of our lives.
Fast forward... we meet, fall in love and get married.
Getting married to each other started a brand new chapter for us. It gave us hope and a chance, by God's grace, to start over again.
You see, when we got married, we brought our love, our strengths and a desire to grow old together in a loving, supportive and committed relationship.
However, we also brought our weaknesses, misperceptions, past experiences and emotional wounds.
In some things we were alike. In some other things... we could not have been more different!
On top of that, we're from different races, different countries, different upbringings, different opinions, different expectations... you get the picture!
Living and being in conflict with someone you love can be so discouraging. The pressure you feel can wear you down and even tear you apart.

Like so many of us, we needed a better understanding of what it truly takes to make relationships not just survive, but thrive in spite of differences.
We were open and eager to learn what it takes to love and support each other better... and as a result, live better. We wanted to do this for ourselves, for each other and for our families. Most importantly, we want to please the Lord and fulfill the will of God for our lives.
For the past 6 years, we have immersed ourselves in formal and practical study, digging in deep, learning and understanding why so many relationships start out strong, yet end up fizzling out. In the process we've learned more about ourselves and each other.
With so many unfulfilled relationships, breakups and divorces in our society, many of us have not experienced or even seen what a loving, long term relationship looks like.
Some of us were raised by caring, hardworking single parents. Perhaps they were so overwhelmed trying to make a life for you, that they couldn't give you the time and attention you desired.
Others had parents who were disconnected and distracted for one reason or another.
Some were abused. Please know that if that's you, our hearts go out to you.
Some of our parents were too busy. Maybe they didn't even know how to have a good relationship themselves.
This can lead to ongoing dysfunctional relationships that gets passed down from generation to generation.
It is a fact that with a better understanding of ourselves and each other... by applying what we understand... and being connected with others who do the same... our relationships can be 100% better.

Joy Slaughter
Founder and Executive Director of a missions organization for 18 years, Joy’s experiences, leadership and compassion, inspire hope to the broken. Under her leadership, the organization edified, trained and equipped pastors, and business leaders. Fundraising to build churches, primary schools, medical clinics, establish food and housing programs for the poor, instilled in her the importance of having good relationship skills. Relationships affect everything we do in life. They have the power to build us up or tear us down. Joy’s passion in life is to see broken people restored to living their life with purpose and passion. At heart, she is a true encourager and loves to impart on the subject of Relationships.
Alvin Slaughter
Alvin has been at the forefront of Gospel as well as praise and worship music as a concert and recording artist for over 25 years. With his music being distributed in more than 70 nations worldwide, Alvin has won or has been nominated for some of the most prestigious awards in Christian Music. His numerous television appearances and concert tours have taken him all over the world. Alvin also sings and imparts at major conferences and workshops on the subjects of Music as Ministry as well as Strengthening Relationships.
